Biography

Katie Callaghan is an experienced performer and teacher on violin and viola throughout CT and the greater metropolitan NY area. She has appeared with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of New Haven, the American Chamber Orchestra, the New England Chamber Choir and Orchestra, and the St. Thomas Orchestra of White Plains, NY. She is also an active freelance musician performing at weddings, pit orchestras, private parties and yacht clubs.

Katie participates several times a year in chamber music workshops, conferences and festivals under the guidance of such internationally renowned teachers and performers as the Manhattan String Quartet and former Gewandhausorchester Concertmaster Karl Suske.


She has been accepted and has received grants to attend Kent Music at Colgate University and Seattle in addition to European string quartet conferences in place such as Paris, London, Prague, Leipzig, and Krakow studying Debussy, Elgar, Dvorak, Schumann, Bartok and Beethoven. Other conferences and festivals which she regularly attends include the SoCal Chamber Music Workshop in Claremont, CA and the Lake Placid, NY Chamber Music Institute.

Katie is an active member of The Associated Chamber Music Players ACMP, an international organization which provides networking opportunities and coaching grants for amateur and professional chamber music players and coaches. American String Teachers Association ASTA. National Association for Music Education NAfME/Connecticut Music Educators Association CMEA.

Katie holds a M.S. in Chemistry from Yale University and M.S.Ed. in Education from Canisius College. She received her musical training and education in upstate New York from such highly regarded teachers and conductors as Dr. Joseph Wincenc, Mr. Richard Holden and Mr. Jack Jeffe.
